As one of the largest midstream providers in the rich-gas area of the Marcellus Shale, we are dedicated to investing in the communities of northern West Virginia and protecting the health of its citizens, the land and the environment. We are committed to local hiring practices, community development and initiatives that reduce our environmental footprint. We partner with government agencies at all levels to adhere to local, state and federal regulations, and we begin each job by planning a course of action that is mindful of people, wildlife and the land. Citizenship is one of our core values. Caiman is a significant taxpayer in Marshall and Wetzel counties and a generous supporter of numerous nonprofits in the region.
West Virginia is an energy state whose roots go deep in the development of our nation’s energy reserves. We are excited about the prospects for the Marcellus Shale and especially for the rich gas region in northern West Virginia. As we expand our footprint in this area we are looking ahead toward expanded cooperation with state and local governments, with the people of West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania and with our partners in the energy industry.
Caiman's President & CEO, Jack Lafield, serves on the governor's Marcellus to Manufacturing Task Force. Created by Acting Governor Earl Ray Tomblin in February 2011, the task force is composed of key industry leaders. Its main goal is to find ways to attract and encourage employers that convert ethane, a compound removed from natural gas during the refining process, into the widely used chemical compound ethylene. The task force will also assist existing in-state businesses that manufacture products with ethylene. In addition, it will assess the state's existing infrastructure for developing an ethylene industry.
"This, in effect, gives West Virginia a double resource and a double opportunity to explore the possibility of reinvigorating our manufacturing sector," Tomblim said at a February news conference.
West Virginia is a strong, optimistic place to be and as the nation reaches toward economic recovery, we see nothing but good things ahead for the Marcellus Shale and the region. We are proud to call West Virginia home.
